Wine & Design Trunk Show

Hello everyone!  Hope your weeks are off to a wonderful start!  We have some fun activities going on this week that I am excited to tell you about.  First, I hope you all can join us this Thursday evening from 6-8 pm for our Wine & Design Trunk Show.  Deborah's friend from Richmond is bringing her clothing boutique to us! She has a way of scouting the market for the best trends and wearable designs at affordable prices. She will be giving you a forecast  of trends coming this way, advice on what to hold onto in your closet, and what to let go. Also, Lynne Ogburn Designs will be here with her "gems in the garden" a beautiful and creative jewelry line and Moon & Lola from downtown Apex will be here with their own line of handmade jewelry. So mark your calendar and invite your friends for a different night in the garden! Please RSVP for this event to 460-7747 or email at info@gardensupplyco.com. We would also like to invite you to The Page-Walker Arts & History Center on Saturday the 15th for their 1st annual Herb-Fest.

In addition to touring the Garden, festival-goers can watch herb cooking demonstrations and stroll through booths selling a wide variety of herbs, crafts and garden products. Vendors participating in Herbfest include: Bela Imports, Chatham Street Café, Dillardville Bird Houses, Garden Supply Company, Eva Green, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, J & M Garden Art, Bonnie King Soaps, The Little Herb House, The Meat House, The Thyme Savor, Wake County Herb Society, Natalie Winters and Whole Foods. Each will reflect the theme of this year’s Herbfest, which is gardening, herbs, native plants, perennials, nature, cooking, and the contribution these pursuits make to a healthy lifestyle. Live musical entertainment will be provided throughout the event by Chris Anderson and Gail Leonard, as well as a talented jazz trio from Enloe High School.

And don't forget that we have tons of gorgeous new plants arriving daily down at Garden Supply.  Peak planting time is now so come on in and let us help you achieve the garden of your dreams this season.  Our garden center is open 7 days a week and our experts are standing by.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I'll see you all back here soon for more snippets from the garden.

Weeping Cherries: Mahogany bark Snow Fountain Cherry

Weeping cherry trees must be included in any Top 10 list of weeping trees, since they are spectacular blooming specimens for the spring landscape. Snow Fountains blooms best in full sun and well-drained soil. A slow-growing ornamental, the branches of this weeping cherry cascade right down to the ground.

Winter Honeysuckle:

Winter honeysuckle is a delightful shrub for extending the seasons: its winter flowers bring spring to the garden several months early while, at the other end of the year, its foliage lasts well into winter.

Pussy Willows:

Pussy Willows are a pure treat for spring-starved eyes. Who doesn't love to  prune off a few branches studded with furry pussy willow to be brought indoors and honored as spring's earliest harbingers?

And if you're looking for a true showpiece for the winter landscape, check out these amazing Harry Lauder's Walking Sticks.  Often referred to by their common names, corkscrew filbert and contorted hazelnut, these flowering shrubs make showy ornamentals prized for their twisted, architectural forms.

These are just a small sampling of what's in store for you down at Garden Supply.  You truly have to see it to believe it!  Stop by and pay us a visit and get in on our special 15% off all trees and shrubs sale beginning Saturday.  Keep your eyes out for pink flamingos around the nursery, too.  They will be marking other sales that are changing daily.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!  Hope to see you all soon!

The Countdown Begins

Good morning everyone!  Happy Monday!  Here's wishing you a great beginning to a new week.  And it's a very exciting week at Garden Supply.  Our annual Spring Garden Party begins in just 6 days, on Saturday  March 13th at 10 a.m.  Be sure and mark your calendars because you guys are not going to want to miss this!  We can't wait to see you there. And in the mean time, we have tons going on down at the garden center.  New plants are arriving daily and the Greenhouse is full to bursting with beautiful spring and Easter decor.  Take a look at this glorious shipment of Variegated Winter Daphne that has just come in.

This lovely plant is noted for its fragrance, which carries long distances and can often be smelled before you even see the plant in early spring.  The flower buds are purple and as they open will reveal an almost white center which is very beautiful.

It is an evergreen, so will keep its leaves year-round.  The leaves are decorative, as well, in dark green with white edges.  It is very dense and has a rounded form that will grow from 2 to 4 feet tall and about 2 to 4 feet wide.  This particular shrub is said to be one of the best of its kind.  With its smaller size it would work well around patios or in a small yard.  It is hardy to zones 6 to 9.  If you like fragrance, this would fit the bill!

If you're looking for a burst of color and greenery, we've got you covered.  The Greenhouse is filled with a wide array of flowers and plants that are sure to please.  We've got pansies, orchids, begonias, tulips, hyacinths, hydrangeas, cyclamens, ranunculus, and primroses in full bloom.  It is absolutely magical in here.

While you're in the Greenhouse, be sure to check out our collectible Penny McAllister figurines.  They are guaranteed to bring a spring smile to these last lingering days of winter.

Penny McAllister's whimsical and sweet collections bring new charm to folk art.  The sewing bug bit Penny at the tender age of 5.  Nearly 50 years later, the former elementary school librarian has woven her passion for folk art into a dream occupation, making paper mache creations full of wit and whimsy.

"The chip on my nose, the worn paint on my clothes...they're all supposed to be there! I was designed this way, lovingly aged" by Penny McAllister

As always, there is more to see and do at Garden Supply.  Stop by and pay us a visit!  We'd love to see you!  And be sure to check back here soon for more snippets from the garden.
