Going Green: Take a seat to make a stand

Going green has always been about giving back. Around the yard, in the greenhouse and at Garden Supply Company, we tend to think going green has to do with recycling plastic water bottles, planting our own fruits and veggies, saving the bees and collecting water in rain barrels. And it does. But we green thumbs have found another way to go about going green and we're excited to announce that you can be involved in this green project too.

The Green Chair Project is a local organization established by two home stagers who realized that most homeowners had an excess of furniture and other home furnishings that weren't being used.  When they paired this fact with the idea that there was a need from many of their neighbors who, for whatever reason, may not have the means to buy furniture for themselves, The Green Chair Project was born. Since 2010, this charitable business has helped to furnish more than 1,000 homes and provide nearly 4,000 deserving people with items that otherwise would have gone to waste. With local business partners, volunteers, donors and this vision, The Green Chair Project has taken a seat to make a stand for those rebuilding their lives.

So how is GSCO involved? We're excited to partner with The Green Chair Project's upcoming fundraiser September 8-10, called So Long, Summer! Porch Sale. This event will raise money for it's Sweeter Dreams project which helps to provide bedding for Wake County students in need. For each donation of new twin sheets or new twin comforter, you'll earn a raffle ticket. Throughout the sale, volunteers will draw winners for some of our So-Long-Summer-Succulents and Terrariums created by GSCO using repurposed Green Chair containers.

Preview Party tickets are available for $20 in advance or $25 at the door the night of the party (September 8, 6-9pm). Admission is free September 9-10.  For more information about the So Long, Summer! Porch Sale click here
