Pollinator Time
with second graders
at Highcroft Drive Elementary
What better way to celebrate Pollinator Week than helping educate the next generation about the importance of pollination. Highcroft Drive Elementary School partnered with Garden Supply Company on a project to do just that.
The second graders of Highcroft Drive Elementary researched pollinators and their important role in providing the fruits, flowers, and vegetables we enjoy. Students learned about the dangers that these pollinators face and researched ways to protect them. As a final community service project, each student designed and put together a wildflower seed packet to encourage community members to plant butterfly gardens.
After assembling the packets, second graders gave the seed packets to Garden Supply Company to distribute to customers in their store. Roger Montague of Garden Supply accepted the seed packets and spent some time with them on the topic of pollination and pollinators. He was really impressed at what the students had learned and their eagerness to share that knowledge. Listen below as the students sing Pollination Time.
A display was placed in Garden Supply Company offering the seed packets for free. Both HighCroft Drive Elementary School and Garden Supply Company are grateful for this partnership which has given students a platform to make a the world a better place through their own small deeds!
